I consider myself a girl of relatively simple tastes. Well, not simple, but plain, boring, some might say. But today instead of buying my usual emu oil when I ran out I picked up Burt's Bees Radiance Night Creme. Doesn't that just sound fabulous? Well you should smell it! The Rosemary, Lemon and Pinetree Extracts combine in a fragrance that is... well, better than bird fat. A lot better. And it shimmers! And it comes in a pot with a silver lid (as opposed to a brown bottle with rubber dropper).
Why do decadent? So luxurious a choice (comparatively)? Well, for one thing it was actually cheaper. But for a much more important other thing: Tom and I shall away to the ludicrously perfect, unbelievably picturesque Ashland Mountain House Bed & Breakfast this Saturday.
Tom has the weekend off and we have the money. But money is the last thing on our minds right now and time together is the first. And talk of camping seemed ludicrous when Tom would stagger in after midnight with bruises and scars on half his body and eyes bloodshot only to set his alarm for another early morning. No tent set-up for him, no loading the car, no chopping wood, no getting up early or sleeping on something that can be rolled up. It's fresh-cut flowers, high thread counts and gourmet breakfast for us, if just for 24 glorious hours.
We're bringing boardgames and swimsuits (swimsuits for the reservoir) and presents for Dad and Amelia who we're excited to visit, however briefly. Uh! I can't believe it's happening! I've just gotten used to never seeing my husband and now we'll be face to face and RADIANT for two whole days!
And, really, it's just the beginning. Next week, as early as Thurday, we'll be up in Seattle for a wedding and a welcome vacation! Well stay at another bed and breakfast and soak in the local flavor as we soak up one another. Who needs the night creme to feel spoiled? Certainly not me, but it is a nice gesture of the incredible transition.
