Tonight's the night?

Uh oh! Is tonight the night I'm supposed to have plans for? I totally forgot about New Years this year. I was just thinking about paying the rent.

Hmm... well, Tom and I usually stay up past midnight, we'll just have to crack a bottle of champagne or something. Not really, that sounds horrible, trying to down most of a bottle of champagne between midnight and bedtime and waking up with that... feeling. No, that won't do.

What else is New-Years-y? Hang on, I'm googleing it...

The Dutch say eat donuts for good luck. Anything shaped like a ring is lucky. I may have to pass up a donut for once as I intend to start dabbling in this in the new year as a show of solidarity to my poor, intolerant sister-in-law and similarly poor and intolerant best friend. First of all, what are the odds that two people so close to me with different heath problems would have the same diet? And second of all, I want to be healthy! And un-inflamed.

Besides, I'm not Dutch. I'm Norwegian/German and, interestingly, both of those cultures are known for their major firework displays on New Years Eve (apparently).

It was on the Sex and the City movie (the first one, the one I watched (twice)) so I am a little ashamed of loving it so much. But, actually no I'm not.

But, OK, here's the thing. The thing I forgot for some reason. My FAVORITE part of New Years Eve, that's full of nostalgia and unrivalable (made up word) excitement and fun:

I don't know what else my family ever did for New Years but I know we did this! What other time in life can you BANG POTS AND PANS TOGETHER?! Right under the nose of your mom! In the middle of the night! I get giddy with excitement just thinking about it! And I get to do it tonight! Because tonight's the night!... right?
