Happy April

A picture from last year - late summer I think.

Warm weather and sunshine invariably remind me of my childhood in California. Even after we moved to Roseburg, when I was 9, we went back every summer to San Diego and every Christmas to Woodland, and other times in between to one place or another.
Mind you, I don't generally like heat and sun. I am certain I do not get my energy from those toll-taking rays; they seem to sap me of all usefulness. But it does make everything easier: this fine weather. We Oregonians think about these things a lot. Mostly about metal things rusting, paper things disintegrating and everything else molding - always, all the time. Hair curling we've pretty much gotten over. Whateva'.
When it is dry and warm anything goes, riding bikes without eighty billion precautions (against wet-butt, ruined projects, etc.), you don't even need shoes! Type of shoe, and length of pant are certainly not issues. Except, I wore my sheepskin-jobs yesterday, and that was pretty much a bad idea, but even then, you can take them off! And I did! The only danger is overdressing, but when you do you merely throw your coat onto the grass (ex-mud) and use it as a picnic blanket.
Windows, which we always have open anyway, are not letting in puddles of rain to be found later, hopefully before they've warped the floor boards (Just kidding Landlord! Nothing like that would happen in here). The whole using your car or kitchen as a refrigerator thing doesn't work anymore but with every season there is a give and take, that is what I'm learning.
So this season, though it is warmer than I'd like, allows me to leave my last class at 7:20pm with some light still in the sky. This season in which I must lug around my morning jacket all day allows me to walk out the door without doing the sock:shoe:weather ratio first thing in the morning. I can get my mail when I want to, carry things around without covering them in plastic bags, walk into the kitchen barefoot to turn on the coffee maker etc, etc.
I am excited this year for spring, almost as excited as I normally am for Fall or Christmas. Aside from being broke and not getting to buy my white t-shirts, new spring-y shoes or get my jeans or dress altered (my spring-time wardrobe fantasies), things are lining up very nicely. This last term of school feels like summer camp (hard, work-filled summer camp) and yoga starts today if I can drag my sun-sapped bottom to Eugene on time. We've decided to get back into Wednesday night bible studies too. Tom's hours will pick up soon but right now I am enjoying our time together. Life is full.

And with that in mind I should really get going on all my work!

I found my other camera battery the other day but didn't have time to charge it before bible study and with how busy Tuesdays and Thursdays are now, well, I'll be doing that today. Tom, being wonderful, like he is, has convinced me that I didn't ruin the battery, they have a lifespan, nothing is forever (especially these days). But we are not tempted to buy a new battery just now. So enjoy some old photos for now. This has been my most expensive term ever, easily. And rent is due today! Happy April!
