My favorite book is my bible, which is sort of cheating, I know, because it's many books in one - but, I believe, you can't have one without the others.
This is not always the first book I reach for when I'm sprawled out or curled up on my bed at the end of the day. It's not always what I'd like to throw in my bag for the bus ride or skim between classes, but it is incredible, and when I do read it I realize how much I've needed it, how much I need it every day.
If I were getting dropped on a desert island - the situation in which these choices occur - I would take this as my one book.
He works in such mysterious ways, and maybe the most mysterious to me is the way in which He continues to speak through the same, unchanging, leather-bound words, in spite of how people use them for ill; in spite of how unfathomable they seem at times. With the help of His spirit we can decipher His message to us individually. It's so amazing! And we're so blessed, in spite of how some may twist it, to have something physical to turn to - God knows us so well, our fear, our weakness, our need for something solid and tactile. And it really helps.
When I was uploading this picture I started singing Gin Blossoms' Til I Hear it From You, which doesn't fit on the whole, but I was singing the line "I don't want to take advice from fools, I just figure everything is cool, until I hear it from you." It's sometimes hilarious the connections the brain makes.
